Nitzan's First Adult Delegation In Poland

In May, for the first time, a delegation of adults from Nitzan traveled to Poland. Amongst them were Nitzan Onim residents, and adults from Nitzan Tel Aviv and Nitzan Rehovot, accompanied by the managers of the Nitzan housing projects, head of rehabilitation, Mr. Dan Sharon, Executive Director of Nitzan, Dr. Maly Danino, Director of Nitzan Onim, Rachel Regev, and other members of staff.

After landing in Warsaw, the tour started at the Jewish cemetery on Aukopobah Street, and then continued to Janusz Korczak's house. The group went on a tour of Zlota street where they saw the remains of the Warsaw Ghetto wall. At Zibovska Square they visited the Nozick synagogue- the only one that survived the war amongst the hundreds of synagogues and shtiebels that existed before the war.

The delegation visited the Krakow ghetto, and Jewish Quarter where the Jews of Krakow lived for hundreds of years, and they toured the monument made out of tombstone fragments.

The most powerful impression made on the group was at the visit to Auschwitz- Birkenau, where they held a ceremony that was both moving and chilling, "Every man has a name" in memory of family members who perished in the Holocaust. The group shared names of family members who perished in the Holocaust and lit a candle in their memory. Members of the Jewish organization "Langdon" in London, also joined the ceremony.

The tour continued with a visit to a group of buildings in the Auschwitz that now constitute a museum in memory of the camp, and then on to Birkenau to learn about the day-to-day life of the prisoners of the camp.
