Meet our Executive Director

Maly Danino

Executive Director of Nitzan

The Israeli Association for Children & Adults with Learning Disabilities

Establisher of the Learning Disabilities Unit

at the Israeli Ministry of Education

Maly Danino has been the Executive Director of Nitzan, the Israeli Association for Children and Adults with Learning Disabilities, since 2003. Ms. Danino is also a lecturer of Public Policy and Advocacy for graduate students at Haifa University in the Department of Learning Disabilities and a PhD candidate at Haifa University in the Department of Counseling and Human Development. Her doctoral work investigates how to best emotionally support parents of children with learning disabilities. The research compares parental group counseling verses coaching for individuals or couples and investigates which methods are more effective for different parents. Ms. Danino trains the parental coaches of these intervention programs according to a method that she developed at Nitzan and has become a leader in the field of parental coaching.

In addition to her career in education, Maly Danino also completed an MSc in Educational Management. Prior to coming to Nitzan, Ms. Danino worked as an educational counselor for ten years and was the principal of the Hod Hasharon High School for eight years, where she promoted special education programs and reorganized the educational programs of the school especially for students with learning disabilities. Further, she established the Learning Disabilities Unit at the Ministry of Education in Israel and continues to this day to advocate for the rights of students with learning disabilities. In 2007, at the LDA National Conference she presented a paper entitled, "In the Absence of a Law To Protect Their Rights, Israeli Students with Learning Disabilities Fall Between the Cracks".

Ms. Danino recently published the book The Parent as a Coach, The Journey of a Parent of a Child with Learning Disabilities and/or ADHD. After publishing her book, Ms. Danino developed two intervention programs for parents: 1) a support group called The Journey from Support to Advocacy, and 2) coaching for individuals or couples. She is in the process of publishing a second book titled The Guide for Parent Coaching, which will serve as a textbook for professionals studying at Nitzan's unique coaching program. Ms. Danino has already trained 50 coaches who are using this new counseling method for parents.

Maly Danino strongly believes in the ability of parents to serve as effective advocates for their children. As a former school principal and counselor, she knows that one of the most important factors in a child's success is the functioning of his/her parents. Maly Danino is determined to provide efficient support for parents of children with learning disabilities within the framework of Nitzan.
