When do learning disabilities first appear?

Learning disabilities, themselves, can be first identified at the beginning of a child's entrance into a formal educational setting; however, early signs of the disability can be noticed even in preschool age children (It's appropriate to mention that some cases of learning disabilities go undetected until a student's arrival in high school or university). Students with learning disabilities that succeeded in coping with the disability in the first years of schooling are still prone to encounter difficulties with the increasing complexity in the demands of a higher grade level, the level of difficulty of the material, the necessity in use of prior knowledge, etc... Therefore, learning disabilities can first be revealed in different stages of the student's education, depending on a number of factors.

It is important to note that, in general, early diagnosis of the learning disability plays a critical role with regards to the student's chances of learning to cope with the disability.
