The characteristics of students and adults with learning disabilities are apparent in several areas. As a result of the differences between students and their difficulties, it is not easy to present a list that is appropriate for everyone. Nevertheless, we are presenting a table which contains most of the difficulties which characterize students with learning disabilities. The table is arranged according to age groups, such that in each group there are age-dependent characteristics in addition to general characteristics relevant to all age-groups listed in the previous tables. Parents, teachers, and care-givers can use the tables to identify symptoms by their students. It is possible to see these phenomena every so often also by students whose development is normal, albeit not so many phenomena at one time or with such severity as in students with learning disabilities.
Therefore, these symptoms need to be evaluated within a wider developmental and environmental context, by means of an expert in the field. It would not be correct to use the table for differential diagnosis, but rather it should be used for helping identify warning signs, and for recommending a referral to professionals for evaluation and diagnosis.
