Community Residence Program - Nitzan Onim Kefar Saba - Raanana

History

In 1989, nearly half a year before the completion of the first class of Nitzan Onim trainees, we came to the conclusion that without continued follow-up and intensive treatment, there is a good chance that many of the trainees won't last at their workplaces and there will be a regression in their functioning. And in fact, towards the end of the first two years of training of the first class, we opened two apartments in which seven adults from the first class of Nitzan Onim moved on to live.

And Where Are We Today?

The Community Residence Program includes two stages:

Stage One - Training Apartments

The apartments are rented by Nitzan and are furnished with the help assistance by the Institution of Bituach Leumi (National Insurance). Between three and five residents live in each apartment. Each resident has his own room.

The stay of each resident is limited to two years. In this stage, home counselors work with the residents three to four times a week during the afternoon hours.

Stage Two - Satellite Apartments

After two years in the training apartments, the trainees can move to satellite apartments that they rent themselves with their families' help. They continue to receive the treatment they need with no time limitation. In this stage, the home counselors come one to three times a week according to the specific residents' needs in their particular apartment.

The Community Residence Program is aided by grants coming from the Rehabilitation Branch of the Ministry of Work and Welfare.

The Areas in which the Residents Work:

1.      House maintenance: cleaning, cooking, and more..

2.      Budget planning: work on the apartment budget and a personal budget

3.      Interpersonal relations

4.      Follow-up on functioning at work

5.      Taking advantage of free time

6.      Integration in the community (clubs, use of community services, culture, etc..)

The Nitzan Onim Community Residence Project includes 5 training apartments and 27 satellite apartments, in which a total of 80 residents are living.
