"My daughter is transparent," says Ronit
“These children are invisible. It takes time to realize that there is a problem. A good child with difficulties, that has no behavior problems, faces a wall of indifference. The Ministry of Education releases worn out slogans, but is unable to cope with the difficulties and leaves children and parents frustrated from the system."
Ronit* from a town in the center region in Israel, mother to Lia* age 11, who has attention deficit disorder, describes life affected by her daughter’s disability as a grueling journey. To this day her daughter did not receive the accommodations she deserves from the school.
Ronit says her participation in the parents coaching process has been an amazing journey for her. During this journey, she realized that the power to change was in her hands. The process she went through allowed her to share her difficulties, without fear of being criticized. She learned to have effective conversations with her child and listen to her differently. She was able to understand herself - what values lead her in making decisions. During the coaching sessions, she was given "assignments" with which they exercise what is learned. "In a short period of time, the atmosphere at home has changed significantly. Lia has begun to gain more confidence, and is now more accepting of her with the disability ..."
